A Native Appalachian from West Virginia, Lisa’s ART began when she could hold a pencil. Once begun, it never stopped. From rocks to glass, from canvas backdrops for stage productions, to murals on 14 foot high walls, to canvas, paper and wood…if it doesn't move fast enough, it’s doomed to be painted.
She finds inspiration in the unusual: the play of light and shadow; the expression in eyes and faces; the delicate movement of tree branches in the breeze; a rusty pile of junk in the corner of a barn; and always, color, color, color. She and her husband Mike are 22 year residents of West Lafayette, OH and have two wonderful and talented daughters.
Blessed with an artistic and supportive family, she was mostly self taught. Since 1980 she has taken seminars with local, national and internationally known artists. Her murals are in/on homes in Florida, West Virginia, and Virginia. Her paintings are scattered throughout the US and as far away as Australia.
Artist Statement:
"Just when you think it has all been done before, something new comes along. My style, medium, and surfaces change depending upon the effect I desire. I work in all mediums and love the variety achieved through experimentation. “Beauty is in the eye of the beholder.” If my art draws you to it and stirs a mood within you, then I have been successful.
To those who say they cannot paint or draw....you did not know how to ride a bike, swim, read or write until someone taught you, so take a class and learn! It is never too late. Everyone has talent, but a lot of us have not discovered it yet. All you need is the DESIRE in your heart and in your soul to try. Then you must practice, practice, and practice.
There are no mistakes in trying. The only mistake is not to try at all."
