JOAN D. STAUFER:
As evidenced in her art, Joan Staufer's beliefs reflect the Native American spirituality respect for nature.
Joan integrates the ancient rhythms of nature into organic patterns and repetitions in her mixed media paintings and altered books.
Joan believes as Lawrence Darrel states,"we are the children of our landscape, it dictates behavior and even thought in the measure to which we are responsive to it."
Joan Staufer studied painting and sculpture at Kent State University and the Cleveland institute of Art where she received her BFA.She continued her visual art studies at Case Western University to advance her teaching practices. From her art studio located on the Coshocton County farm of her youth, Joan offers workshops to encourage others in pursuing their own connection to nature through creative expression.
Besides being an active painter and advocate for nature, Joan has awarded individual artist grants from the Ohio Arts Council.
Her paintings are in private collections from coast to coast and exhibited throughout the states.
